TOR ERIK FRYDENLUND

"Geofoam Blocks in Civil Engineering Applications” will be delivered by Tor Erik Frydenlund.

Tor Erik Frydenlund has a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering (1963) from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland and Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering (1971) from the University of California, Berkeley. He has worked for the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (NPRA), Road Research Laboratory (NRRL) from 1963 to 1998 and the Road Technology Department (RTD) from 1998 to 2003. After his retirement from NPRA at the end of 2003, he founded Geo Con a private consulting firm. During his employment at NRRL, he served as Soils engineer, Head of Soil Mechanics Section, Head of Geology and Soil Mechanics Section, Deputy Director, and Research Coordinator for NPRA and at RTD as Head of Soil Mechanics Section.

After the very first geofoam roadway application as a lightweight embankment fill in Norway in 1972, he participated in further development of the geofoam method and in the dissemination of the technology to other countries. At the First International Conference on EPS held in Oslo, Norway (EPS1985) he served on the organizing committee. He was an invited speaker at the Second International Conference on EPS held in Tokyo, Japan (EPS1996), at the third International Conference on EPS in Salt Lake City, Utah (EPS2001), and the International Workshop on Lightweight Geo-Materials held in Tokyo, Japan in 2002. He served as secretary for the fourth International Conference on EPS held in Oslo, Norway (EPS2011). He was a member of the technical committee for EPS2001, and a member of the International Advisory Committee for the International Workshop on Lightweight Geo-Materials.
